Postdoc position Neuroscience/ Molecular Biology/ Genetics at Spain
Our research team runs several related projects studying the cellular and molecular mechanisms involved in the development of axonal connections in the brain. In particular, our aim is to uncover the principles underlying thalamocortical axonal wiring, maintenance and ultimately the rewiring of connections, through an integrated and innovative experimental programme. These include optical imaging, manipulation of gene expression in vivo, cell and molecular biology, biochemistry, cell culture and electrophysiology (see Current Biology 21 (2011); PLoS Biology 7, e98 (2009), J Neurosci 27, 3395-407 (2007), Cell 125, 127-42 (2006), Nat Rev Neurosci 4, 276-8 (2003)). All research projects are led by a young scientist (see “contact”) and funded by European Research Council (ERC) grant.
The laboratory will provide an excellent multidisciplinary working atmosphere in a dynamic and bilingual environment at the Instituto de Neurociencias in Alicante, located in the south-east of Spain at the University of Miguel Hernandez-CSIC. The host institute is composed by several research groups exploring the development, structure and function of the nervous system in normal and pathological conditions (http://in.umh.es/).
Research project:
We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher expert in neurobiology, and connectivity to participate in a project to stduy the role of sensory-input and electrical actvity using specific transgenic animal models in which to challenge brain plasticity through thalamic manipulation. This aim will be complemented by functional genomic approaches that will help us to unravel the mechanisms underlying neuroplasticity in thalamocortical connectivity.
Requirements:
The candidate will have a PhD, or equivalent, in relevant discipline (Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, Genetics) with excellent past-record of achievement. Experience with optogenetics, sensory-deprivation, imaging in vivo, gene expression control systems is preferred.
