Job for Bioinformaticians at University of Basel, Switzerland

The Department of Biomedicine (DBM) unites the biomedical laboratory research of the Faculty of Medicine and represents a joint venture of the University Basel, the University Hospital Basel and the University Children’s Hospital Basel. At present, the Department comprises 59 research groups, accommodated in five different laboratory locations.From December 1, 2011 (or by arrangement) we are looking for a Bioinformatician to perform data analysis and to provide bioinformatic solutions on various research projects.

Job description :
1. Integrated analysis of genomic data coming from high throughput sequencing (ChIP-Seq, whole exome and RNA-sequencing) and DNA microarrays
2. Computational analysis of gene lists for follow-up studies, including pathway predictions, protein-protein interactions and correlation of expression patterns with disease states by statistical analysis and public database mining
3. Organization of courses in statistics and relevant bioinformatic skills for the members of
the Department
4. Curation and organization of internal databases

We are looking for :
5. The successful candidate has a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, statistical genetics, computer science or closely related fields.
6. He/she has a strong background in working with high throughput data, in particular array-based gene expression and high throughput sequencing data, as well as experience with existing bioinformatics tools and biological/medical databases.
7. Excellent skills in PERL and R are a prerequisite, additional knowledge in Java will be useful.
8. The applicant should have strong communication skills and enjoy working in a team and training graduate students and postdocs.
